ESTABLISHING A CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO PROVIDE
RECOMMENDATIONS ON OPEN SPACE ACQUISITIONS
WHEREAS, City voters overwhelmingly supported an advisory referendum in
November 2000, which proposed an initiative for the City to acquire additional open space
parcels to be financed with real property tax revenues not to exceed $.05 for a maximum time
period of 5 years, and
WHEREAS, City Council has determined that a Citizens Advisory Committee should
be empanelled to provide it with recommendations and an implementation plan;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that an Open Space Citizens Advisory
Committee is hereby established for the purpose of providing recommendations to the City
Council in the following areas:
1. Establishing criteria for the acquisition of open space parcels.
2. Identifying specific parcels to be acquired.
3. Identifying sources of outside funding that can be used to leverage tax
funds.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that said advisory committee shall be comprised of
the following representatives:
1. The Mayor and each member of City Council shall have one appointee on
the committee and the Mayor's appointee shall serve as chair.
2. There shall be one representative from PRAB chosen by that body; there
shall be one member from the Planning Commission chosen by that body.
3. There shall be one member by the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce,
chosen by the Chamber of Commerce.
BE IT STILL FURTHER RESOLVED that the advisory committee shall submit its
recommendations to the City Council no later than March 1, 2001. Upon submittal of the
report, the advisory committee shall be disbanded.
