19990608 r-99-15RESOLUTION R-99-15 RECEIPT OF THE TAXATION TASK FORCE REPORT WHEREAS, the City Council wishes the City of Fairfax to be a model jurisdiction of fair and efficient local tax policy for the Commonwealth of Virginia; and WHEREAS, the City Council, in pursuit of that goal, established the Taxation Task Force on September 8, 1998 to make recommendations to the City Council regarding the City's tax structure; and WHEREAS, the Taxation Task Force has now presented its report with a series of recommendations involving special land tax districts, sales taxes, income taxes, a separate BPOL rate on auto sales, and Historic Courthouse Preservation Zones; and WHEREAS, it is important that, in order to be successful, these recommendations have widespread support in Northern Virginia and throughout the Commonwealth; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council receives the report of the Taxation Task Force and thanks all of its members for their time and effort; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council refers the report to City staff and directs that staff develop strategies for the best way to move the recommendations forward in concert with other Virginia localities.
