RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT FOR THE HISTORIC FAIRFAX
CITY, INC., GRANT REQUEST
WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Transportation provides
Transportation Enhancement Program funds for projects that qualify
under the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA);
and
WHEREAS, in accordance with Commonwealth Transportation Board
construction allocation procedures, it is necessary that a request
by resolution be received from the local government in order that
the Virginia Department of Transportation fund an enhancement
project in the City of Fairfax;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of
Fairfax, Virginia that the City requests the Commonwealth
Transportation Board establish a project entitled "Civil War Sites"
for the purpose of identifying and interpreting Civil War sites
within the Northern Virginia area; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Fairfax through
Historic Fairfax City, Inc., agrees to pay twenty percent of the
total proportionate cost, not to exceed two thousand dollars
($2,000), for planning and design, right of way acquisition, and
construction of the project, and that if Historic Fairfax City,
Inc. or the City of Fairfax elects to cancel this project, the
Virginia Department of Transportation will be reimbursed for the
total amount of the costs expended by the Department through the
date the Department is notified of such cancellation.
