19970128 r-97-3RESOLUTION NO. R-97- 3 RESOLUTION FOR MORARITY PLACE/SCHOOL STREET REDEVELOPMENT AREA WHEREAS, the City of Fairfax and Fairfax County have formed a joint task force to study the potential for redevelopment of a 19 acre site known as Morarity Place/School Sweet; and WHEREAS, the task force study has determined that a "signature" mixed use project including a hotel/conference center, neighborhood convenience retail center, office building and residential uses is both possible and desirable; and WHEREAS, the project area consists of multiple ownership including Fairfax County Redevelopment & Housing Authority, Fairfax County School Board, George Mason University and nine private individuals and must be aggregated under one ownership to promote the redevelopment; and WHEREAS, the City of Fairfax Comprehensive Plan supports the redevelopment of the project area as a mixed use development consistent with the task force recommendation; and C NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City of Fairfax requests that Fairfax ounty Redevelopment & Housing Authority prepare an Existing Conditions Report on the Morarity Place/School Street area to determine if the area is suitable for redevelopment in accordance with Title 36 of the Code of Virginia of 1950 as amended; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Fairfax County Redevelopment & Housing Authority participate with the city in the redevelopment of this project and in the purchase of properties in the project area.
