REVISED SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT PLAN
WHEREAS, in accordance with the Virginia Waste Management Act
of 1988, the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality
promulgated local solid waste management planning regulations
requiring local governments to develop comprehensive solid waste
management plans, and to revise the plan every five years; and
WHEREAS, City staff has presented the final draft of the
revised Solid Waste Management Plan for the City of Fairfax for the
City's review and approval; and
WHEREAS, objectives of the plan are to:
Develop a plan that is consistent with the Department of
Environmental Quality (DEQ) hierarchy.
Implement a collection and recycling program that
anticipates the expected growth within the City.
Develop an understanding with Fairfax County to provide
disposal services for City waste.
Expand the city's drop-off recycling program.
Achieve a 48% recycling rate by the year 2000.
WHEREAS, the City Council reviewed the plan.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Fairfax that the revised Solid Waste Management Plan for the
City of Fairfax, dated June, 1997, as prepared by City staff, is
hereby approved.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of the City of Fairfax
Solid Waste Management Plan be forwarded to the Department of
Environmental Quality for review and approval.
