A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE PARTNERS IN PREVENTION INITIATIVE
WHEREAS, it is estimated that 60 percent of all pregnancies in
the United States are unintended and over 82 percent of all teen
pregnancies are unintended; and
WHEREAS, the majority of unintended pregnancies occur among
adult women; and
WHEREAS, the number of unplanned and unintended pregnancies in
Fairfax has steadily increased since 1975;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Fairfax, Virginia, on behalf of the citizens of the City of
Fairfax, will become a Partner in Prevention with the Commonwealth
of Virginia, and hereby recommends the development of a
multifaceted, public-private campaign to educate the community
about the relationship between unintended pregnancies and the
health of infants and children, to develop and evaluate a variety
of programs aimed at reducing unintended pregnancies in teens, and
to expand these programs when appropriate to at risk adults.
