A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING CITY COUNCIL POLICY
REGARDING REQUESTS FOR TAX EXEMPTION BY
NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS
WHEREAS, it is the goal of the City of Fairfax to provide an equitable property
taxation system for the owners of real and personal property in the City; and
WHEREAS, not-for-profit organizations apply to the City of Fairfax from time to
time seeking exemption from real or personal property taxes as provided by law; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Fairfax deems it necessary to establish
a policy regarding future tax exemption requests from not-for-profit organizations;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that:
1. It is the policy of the City of Fairfax that requests for tax exemption are not
generally endorsed or encouraged;
Requests for exemption must be filed with the City Clerk no later than July 1;
All exemption requests, approved by the City Attorney's Office and forwarded by
City staff' for City Council action, shall be considered by City Council on the same
date, no later than December 1 of each year;
4. All exemption requests shall be sponsored by a member of City Council.
