A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE CONTINUATION OF
HOV-2 ON 1-66 INSIDE THE CAPITAL BELTWAY
WHEREAS, on February 14, 1995, the Council of the City of Fairfax,
Virginia requested that a one-year demonstration project be conducted of HOV-
2 restrictions on 1-66 inside the Capital Beltway; and
WHEREAS, the demonstration has been underway since March 1, 1995
and is scheduled to end on March 1, 1996; and
WHEREAS, on February 13, 1996, the Council of the City of Fairfax
conducted a public hearing on the draft Final Report on the 1-66 HOV-2
Demonstration Project;
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Fairfax, Virginia
recommends that HOV-2 restrictions on 1-66 inside the Capital Beltway be
continued after the completion of the demonstration project; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of
Fairfax recommends that HOV-2 restrictions be continued in conjunction with
the implementation of a fare buy-down program as proposed by the Virginia
Department of Transportation (VDOT) that will offset any loss in patronage
and revenue to the CUE System due to the HOV-2 restrictions; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the position of the Council of
the City of Faiffax be presented at the Transportation Planning Board meeting
on February 21, 1996 by it's designated representative to that Board.
