R-96-49 A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A POLICY FOR USE OF TRAFFIC CALMING ON CITY STREETS WHEREAS, the City of Fairfax is located at the crossroads of Northern Virginia, resulting in large volumes of commuter traffic travelling through the City; and WHEREAS, the City's residential neighborhoods are used by motorists trying to find shortcuts to avoid the heavily travelled main arterial highways; and WHEREAS, the health, safety and welfare of the City's residents is at risk due to speeding by some motorists and the large volume of traffic on streets not designed for such volumes; and WHEREAS, the City Council supports measures to reduce the impact of vehicles in residential areas of the City; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, that the attached policy entitled "Policy For Use of Traffic Calming on City Streets, City of Fairfax, Virginia," dated October 22, 1996, is hereby adopted.
