RESOLUTION APPOINTING A CENTER FOR EXCELLENCE ADVISORY BOARD
WHEREAS, the George Mason University (the "University"), the
City of Fairfax, Virginia (the "City"), and the George Mason
University Foundation (the "Foundation") have agreed through a
Memorandum of Understanding (the "MOU") to engage in cooperative
activities whereby City residents, University faculty and students
can contribute to enhancing community excellence; and
WHEREAS, such entities intend that such cooperative activities
be referred to as, and constitute, the Center for Excellence (the
"Center); and
WHEREAS, such entities agree that the City Council shall
appoint an advisory board, in accordance with the MOU, to advise
the City, the University and the Foundation on the operation,
funding and joint undertakings of such entities; and
WHEREAS, by this Resolution, the City Council appoints a
Center for Excellence Advisory Board in accordance with the MOU.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Fairfax, Virginia, that
1. There is hereby appointed a Center for Excellence
Advisory Board (the "Advisory Board") to advise the city, the
University and the Foundation on the operation, funding and joint
undertakings of the Center.
2. The Advisory Board shall provide a means by which initial
joint decisions concerning the Center can be made before such
decisions are considered by each of the parties to the MOU. The
Advisory Board shall periodically advise the city, the University
and the Foundation of the present activities and future plans of
the Center.
3. The Advisory Board shall function, and the members
thereof shall serve, in accordance with the MOU and this
Resolution, as such documents may be amended from time to time.
4. The Advisory Board shall consist of two representatives
designated by the University, two representatives designated by the
City, and one representative jointly designated by the University
and the City. Members of the Advisory Board shall serve at the
pleasure of the City Council for terms of two years, which terms
shall begin upon adoption of this Resolution.
5. There are hereby appointed to the Advisory Board the
