R-93-26 A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO PROGRAM AN ENHANCEMENT PROJECT FOR THE LIGHTING OF THE CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD (ROUTE 123) BICYCLE/PEDESTRIAN FACILITY FROM JUDICIAL DRIVE SOUTH TO THE CITY LINE WHEREAS, in accordance with Commonwealth Transportation Board construction allocation procedures, it is necessary that a request by resolution be received from the local government or state agency in order that the Virginia Department of Transportation program an enhancement project in the City of Fairfax, Virginia. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Fairfax, requests the Commonwealth Transportation Board to establish a project to provide for lighting along the Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) bicycle/pedestrian facility from Judicial Drive south to the city line. This facility provides a pedestrian and bicycle route between the City of Fairfax and George Mason University. Lighting is necessary to promote the safe use of this facility during the evening hours when classes and events occur at George Mason University. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Fairfax hereby agrees to pay twenty percent (20%) of the total cost for planning and design, right-of-way and construction of this project, and that, if the City of Fairfax subsequently elects to cancel this project, the City of Fairfax hereby agrees to reimburse the Virginia Department of Transportation for the total amount of the costs expended by the Department through the date the Department is notified of such cancellation.
