A RESOLUTION TO APPROVE THE REQUEST OF CRESTAR BANK, BY
KATJA BOYD, PROJECT MANAGER, FOR SPECIAL EXCEPTIONS TO
CITY CODE SECTIONS 26-44Co)(4)(a) AND 26-44Co)(4)(c) TO ALLOW
INSTALLATION OF BUILDING-MOUNTED SIGNAGE ON THE
PREMISES KNOWN AS CRESTAR BANK, 4020 UNIVERSITY DRIVE,
AND MORE PARTICULARLY DESCRIBED AS TAX MAP PARCEL 57-4-
4-((2))-44.
WHEREAS, Crestar Bank, by Katja Boyd, Project Manager, has submitted
application No. SE-124-93-1 requesting the Special Exceptions to the City Code listed
below:
Section 26-44fo)(4)(a) Table III To allow placement of building wall signs at a
height which exceeds the allowed 3% feet above the finished floor level of the
second story (approximately 20 feet above the allowed height); and
Section 26-44(b)(4)(c) To permit a sign lettering height which exceeds the
allowed 10 inches (27 inches).
WHEREAS, City Council has determined that the proposed Special Exceptions
are appropriate because the proposal meets the requisites established by City of
Fairfax Code Sections 26-48 and 26-103(c) for the following reasons:
The existing landscape materials and building design present a unique
burden to the applicant; and
The request is consistent with the purpose of the Sign Ordinance and
the goal of the Comprehensive Plan to provide for adequate, well-
designed signage.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Fairfax on this 23rd day of November, 1993, that application No. SE-124-93-1 be and
hereby is APPROVED, with the condition that the Special Exceptions be valid for
Crestar Bank only.
