RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR THE NOMINATION OF THE
TASTEE 29 DINER TO THE VIRGINIA LANDMARKS REGISTER
AND THE NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES
WHEREAS, the City of Fairfax is a Certified Local Government
in partnership for historic preservation activities with the
Virginia Department of Historic Resources and the National Park
Service; and
WHEREAS, the City Council commissioned a professional survey
of historic sites outside Old Town Fairfax that identified the
Tastee 29 Diner as a significant historic property; and
WHEREAS, the City's Board of Architectural Review (BAR)
supports the nomination of the Tastee 29 Diner to the Virginia
Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places;
and
WHEREAS, the State Review Board has recommended that the
Tastee 29 Diner be placed on the National Register of Historic
Places; and
WHEREAS, the Tastee 29 Diner is an important local landmark,
a community gathering place and eatery, representing a unique form
of roadside architecture and exhibiting exceptional design and
construction characteristics;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council supports
the nomination of the Tastee 29 Diner to the Virginia Landmarks
Register and the National Register of Historic Places.
