A RESOLUTION TO REFER TO THE PLANNING COMMISSION FOR
REVIEW, PUBLIC HEARING AND RECOMMENDATION AN
AMENDMENT TO CITY CODE CHAPTER 26, ARTICLE XVI, I-2
INDUSTRIAL DISTRICT, SECTION 26-188 (PERMITTED USES WITH
SPECIAL USE PERMIT).
WHEREAS, the Comprehensive Plan of the City of Fairfax, Virginia,
recognizes only a "Limited Industrial" land use category; and
WHEREAS, the few heavy industrial uses which currently exist in
the City are considered to be no longer appropriate in the City; and
WHEREAS, the removal of heavy industrial uses as permitted uses is
appropriate given the City's relatively small size and the predominance of
residential neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, Article XVI, I-2 Industrial District, Section 26-188,
Permitted Uses -- with Special Use Permit, includes heavy industrial uses
that are considered detrimental to the health, safety and general welfare of
the City; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to facilitate the creation of a
convenient, attractive and harmonious community;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the City Council of
the City of Fairfax, Virginia, refer to the Planning Commission for study,
public hearing and recommendation, the removal of heavy industrial uses
from City Code Chapter 26, Article XVI, Section 26-188, Permitted Uses --
With Special Use Permit.
