19921027 r-92-50RESOLUTION NO. R-92-50 Resolution In Opposition to Pari-Mutuel Wagering at a Satellite Facility in the City of Fairfax WHEREAS, the 1992 session of the Virginia General Assembly and the Governor approved amendments to the State Code to provide for pari-mutuel wagering at satellite facilities in up to six localities throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia; and WHEREAS, the law requires that in localities where petitions have been filed and the required legal procedures have been followed, a referendum be held on the question of whether pari-mutuel wagering shall be permitted at a satellite facility; and WHEREAS, this question is on the 1992 ballot in the City of Fairfax; and WHEREAS, the City Council believes that limited information has been disseminated to the voters of the City of Fairfax and inadequate opportunity for discussion. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Fairfax finds that establishment of a pari-mutuel wagering satellite facility would be inconsistent with the character and vision of the City; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Fairfax supports the defeat of this referendum and encourages the voters of the City to vote "No" on this question on November 3, 1992. ADOPTED this 27th day of October , 1992. ATTEST:
