R-91-12 REDISTRICTING VIRGINIA HOUSE OF DELEGATES WHEREAS, the City of Fairfax, as a small, political jurisdiction, has needs and concerns distinct from those of the surrounding county; and independent separate and WHEREAS, continuation of the City of Fairfax as an intact entity in its representation is consistent with the state constitution, state law and with the Voting Rights Act of 1965, all of which speak to clearly defined, compact, and contiguous boundaries, protection of communities of interest, protection of minority voting rights and equal representation; and WHEREAS, continuation of the City of Fairfax as a singly represented entity facilitates communication and positive relations between the City and its legislative representatives; and WHEREAS, the 20,000 population of the City is equal only to approximately one-third the size of an ideal single legislative district and the collective voice of the City should be heard as one; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Fairfax believes that it is practical, fair and equitable that the City of Fairfax be retained as a single district for representation in the Virginia House of Delegates.
