19911015 r-91-33RESOLUTION NO. R-91-33 RESOLUTION EXPRESSING CITY'S OPPOSITION TO THE FAIRFAX COUNTY REDEVELOPMENT AND HOUSING AUTHORITY (FCRHA) PROPOSED HOUSING PROJECT, MORARITY PLACE, ON PROPERTY LOCATED IMMEDIATELY SOUTH OF THE CITY'S BOUNDARY. WHEREAS, FCRHA proposes development of Morarity Place, an assisted housing project of up to 70 two and three-bedroom units on property located immediately south of the City's boundary; and WHEREAS, the proposed development would be contrary to the City's objectives for the surrounding area and would not be an appropriate use for the proposed location; and WHEREAS, the City believes that the Morarity Place site is in a uniquely strategic location between George Mason University and the City's Old Town area; and WHEREAS, the City believes that future land uses in that location should not only benefit the University, but should also contribute to the City's objectives of strengthening the land use relationship between the City and the University; and WHEREAS, the development of the property presents the City, Fairfax County and the University with an opportunity to cooperate in supporting a mutually beneficial project; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council express to Fairfax County its opposition to the FCRHA proposed housing project, Morarity Place, located immediately south of the City's boundary. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City invites Fairfax County and George Mason University to cooperate in supporting a mutually beneficial project. Adopted this 15th day of October, 1991.
