SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT PLAN
AD HOC TASK FORCE
WHEREAS, the management of solid waste is an
environmental problem of both local and national sig-
nificance; and
WHEREAS, the City has been active in recycling
programs to reduce the amount of refuse being placed in
the Fairfax County landfill; and
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia has required
that each jurisdiction submit a solid waste management
plan by July 1, 1991; and
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth's Department of Waste
Management has encouraged extensive public participation
in the development of the solid waste management plan;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council
of the City of Fairfax that an ad hoc task force is
established to advise the Council and City staff in the
development of the City's solid waste management plan;
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the task force be
comprised of members appointed by the Mayor and City
Council, to include interested citizens and representa-
tives from the business community, the Planning Commis-
sion, the Community Appearance Committee, the Parks and
Recreation Advisory Board and the School Board; the Chair
to be appointed by the Mayor with the concurrence of
City Council; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the task force will be
terminated when City Council adopts its Solid Waste
Management Plan.
