A RESOLUTION TO PROMOTE A COMPLETE COUNT IN THE 1990 CENSUS
WHEREAS, the success of the 1990 census count in the City
of Fairfax is vitally important to ensure fair share funding and
appropriate political representation for the community; and
WHEREAS, the census provides critical data needs for City
planning efforts, in terms of transportation systems, social
services programs, housing needs, school districting, elderly
and handicapped programs, and other public program goals and
policies; and
WHEREAS, the active participation of local governments in
coordinating the community effort is a key to the success of the
1990 census; and
WHEREAS, the City of Fairfax has been scheduled for both
a pre and post census local review opportunity to ensure a
complete and accurate count;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that:
The City of Fairfax will conduct a pre and post census
local review of census data. This review will be
conducted by and coordinated through the Department
of Community Development and Planning (CD&P).
As appropriate, other City departments may be called
upon in the effort to ensure a complete count,
including Real Estate Assessments, Transit & Utili-
ties, Schools, and Voter Registration.
The Public Information Office will undertake an
intensive public education campaign to inform all
residents about the importance of cooperating with the
census.
The Mayor and City Council, as well as all City
employees, will serve as census ambassadors to the
citizens of Fairfax and will encourage return of the
questionnaires in public meetings and correspondence
to local government constituents, as appropriate, and
through distribution of census information to the
community.
