A RESOLUTION REQUESTING MEDIA GENERAL OF FAIRFAX
TO RECONSIDER THE DECISION TO DROP WGN-TV
WHEREAS, Media General of Fairfax, Inc. has decided to drop five existing
distance signal channels, with one of these channels being WGN-TV from Chicago;
and
WHEREAS, WGN-TV is an extremely popular channel among many viewers in the
City of Fairfax;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Fairfa
does hereby strongly request that Media General of Fairfax reconsider its de~
sion to drop WGN-TV from its programming services.

Dear Mr. Waldrop:
On Tuesday night, June 28, the Fairfax City Council adopted the enclos~Q
resolution concerning your decision to drop WGN-TV from your prc~3ramming schedule.
While I can understand that a business must obtain a return for its investors, the
dropping of such seemingll, popular stations while leaving far less popular ones,
does not seem to be gocd business.
The City of Fairfax initiated the cable TV franchise procedure in 1982,
because of a desire by our residents to°receive broadcasts from other than the
Metropolitan Washington area. Media General's proposal at that time met this
need. I am sad to see that Media General is apparently retreating from that
promised level of service.
I would appreciate a response from you, that I can share with the City
Council, which more fully explains this decision and Media General's longer
range programming' plans.
