A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING INTENT TO IDENTIFY AND PROTECT WORTHY AREAS, STRUCTURES
AND SITES.
WHEREAS, the City wishes to protect districts, sites, buildings, structures
and objects:
a. that are associated with events that have made a significant contribu-
tion to the broad pattern of the City's history; or
b. that are associated with the lives of persons significant in the City's
past; or
c. that embody the distinctive characteristics of a type, period, or
method of construction, or that represent the work of a master, or
that possess high artistic values, or that represent a significant
and distinguishable entity whose components may lack individual
distinction; or
d. that have yielded, or may be likely to yield, information important in
prehistory or history; and
WHEREAS, some of these significant districts, sites, buildings, structures
or objects lie outside of the Old and Historic District; and
WHEREAS, the City wishes to protect these significant features from destruc-
tion or encroachment; and
WHEREAS, the City wishes to ensure that new structures, modifications, or
uses of the significant sites or the areas surrounding them will be in keep-
ing with the character of the significant districts, sites, buildings, struc-
tures and objects; and
WHEREAS, the City seeks the input of the Board of Architectural Review in
determining historic areas, structures or sites;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fairfax
on this 30th day of August , 1988, that it is the intent of the
City Council to identify all districts, sites, buildings and objects of archi-
tectural, cultural or historical significance located in the City, and to
develop zoning mechanisms to protect them from demolition or incongruous
alteration.
