WHEREAS, the United States Congress has declared throughout the land that
3anuary 1987 through December 1991 be the five year period of commemoration of
the 200th Anniversary of the United States Constitution; and
WHEREAS, the National "Say Thanks, America" (STA) Campaign was founded
in 198~, and is a nonprofit corporation that instills hope and values in young Ameri-
cans and has devised a national school program, a public awareness campaign, and
national network of voluntary organizations to "Say Special Thanks to the People
Who Build Our Hopes and Ensure Our Liberties"; and
WHEREAS, the National "Say Thanks, America" Campaign has been recognized
by the White House and endorsed by the Commission on the Bicentennial of the
United States Constitution, U.S. Conference of Mayors and fifteen other national
organizations, and has involved over 1~,800 youth in "Say Thanks, America" activities
nationwide; and
WHEREAS, the National "Say Thanks, America" Campaign has received the
endorsement of the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Washington Council of
Governments;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Fairfax joins with other
jurisdictions in support of this fine program and encourages the young people of the
City to join in this national celebration by "saying thanks" to the people of the com-
munity whose tireless efforts build the hopes and liberties that we all share.
