WHEREAS, the proposed improvements to the intersection of Pickett Road and
Route 50 are planned to be constructed by the Virginia Department of Highways and
Transportation as a part of the Blake Lane Extension Project; and
WHEREAS, the Blake Lane Extension Project is in Fairfax County's Road Bond
Program; and
WHEREAS, in order to include the proposed improvements in the County's
contract for the Blake Lane Extension Project and meet the existing schedule, the
necessary design and engineering work must be performed on an expedited basis; and
WHEREAS, these improvements are critical to traffic flow in the City after
the opening o~ the Vienna Metro station; and
WHEREAS, the only practical source, due to the time constraints, for the
necessary design and engineering work is the same source that did Fairfax County's
design and engineering work, namely Dewberry & Davis; and
WHEREAS, Dewberry & Davis has submitted to the City a proposal to do the
necessary design and engineering work and the cost estimate ~or the project is within
the expected and acceptable range for this type of project; and
WHEREAS, the cost of the design and engineering work will be deducted from
the City's share of the overall cost o~ this project;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that a contract be awarded to the firm
of Dewberry & Davis in the amount of $21,785.00 for design and engineering services
for improvements to the intersectoin of Pickett Road and Route 50.
