A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF FAIRFAX TO PARTICIPATE IN
THE CONSTRUCTION BY FAIRFAX COUNTY OF A CORRECTIONAL FACILITY
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Fairfax, the Board of
Supervisors of Fairfax County, and the Council of the City of
Falls Church, Virginia, want to maintain an efficient and modern
"Adult Detention Center and Pre-Release" facility in order to
serve the needs of the cities of Fairfax and Falls Church and
Fairfax County; and
WHEREAS, the plans for the proposed facility have been ap-
proved by the Commonwealth of Virginia, the contract for construc-
tion has been awarded, and bonds to finance the facility have been
approved by the County voters; and
WHEREAS, the Code of Virginia at Section 53.1-81, as amended,
provides for the prorata reimbursement of up to one-half of the
money paid by each jurisdiction not to exceed $300,000.00, each to
be paid in increments of not more than $50,000 per year;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council of the City
of Fairfax, Virginia, by this resolution, desires to work with its
neighbors in the construction of this project in the spirit of
regional cooperation and the Council hereby expresses its firm
intent to commit to sharing in the cost of the facility in a man-
ner mutually agreeable to the participating jurisdictions.
