19851210 r-85-27RESOLUTION NO. R-85-27 WHEREAS, the Code of Virginia, Chapter 23-9.2:3(b) states: "Upon receipt of an appropriate resolution of the Board of Visitors or other governing body of an educational institution, the governing body of a political subdivision which is contiguous to the institution shall enforce state statutes and local ordinances with respect to offences occurring on the property of the institution." WHEREAS, this law allows the governing board of an institution to implement this section of the Code of Virginia to insure the safety and security of the Univers- ity community through adequate professional law enforcement personnel for major events occurring on the George Mason University campus. WHEREAS, that on November 20, 198~, the GMU Board of Visitors passed the following resolution: '~Resolved, that pursuant to Virginia Code Section 23-9.2:3(b) which per- mits the university governing board to authorize an outside police agency to assist the University Police, the Board of Visitors of George Mason University does hereby establish and affirm their desire to have the Fair- fax City Police come upon the property owned or controlled by George Mason University and upon the streets, sidewalks, and highways, immedia- tely adjacent to the main campus, and into the George Mason University Patriot Center building, to assist the University Police in the maintenance of traffic control, peace and order for special events occurring thereon or therein." NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Fairfax Police Depart- ment will assist George Mason University anywhere within their jurisdiction upon their invitation.
