RESOLUTION CREATING THE "CITY OF FAIRFAX COMMISSION FOR WOMEN"
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council realize the need for official recog-
nition of the problems that affect women of the community, including housing,
employment, transportation, credit, counseling, education, legal information, insur-
ance, day care, health benefits, discrimination and support groups; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council believe that both individual City resi-
dents and the City as a whole suffer when human potential is underutilized; and
WHEREAS, present budget constraints are such that existing human service
agencies are unable to meet all of the above stated needs,
NOW, THEREFORE~ BE IT RESOLVED~ that the Mayor and City Council do
hereby establish the City of Fairfax Commission for Women and does charge it with
the following:
To advise the Mayor and City Council on matters relating to problems
affecting women in the City of Fairfax,

To re-enforce and support existing human services in matters affecting the
status of women in the City of Fairfax,
To investigate, to the best extent possible, the problems facing all women
in today's changing society.
To facilitate communication between all members of the community.
To carry out such other functions as directed by the Mayor and City Coun-
cil that may further the purpose of this resolution;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Commission shall be established and it
shall consist of seven members appointed by the Fairfax City Council, who shall
serve at the pleasure of the Council. The first three members appointed by the
Council shall serve a one year term, two members shall serve two year terms, and
two members shall serve three year terms as determined by the Council. Thereafter
all members shall serve three year terms. All terms shall end on March 31st of the
year in which the term expires. Each year a chairman shall be named from among
the seven Commission members. A vacancy created by death, resignation or removal
shall be filled by the Council.
