19840724 r-84-20RESOLUTION NO. R-84-20 WHEREAS, the three-digit number, 9-1-1, was set aside in 1968 as the universal emergency telephone number in the United States; and WHEREAS, the local governments in the metropolitan Washington area have implemented 9-1-I as the emergency assistance telephone number for police, or fire or both; and WHEREAS, The Select Working Group on 9-1-1 of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments was formed at the request of the Board of Directors, and has developed a report entitled "9-1-1 and E-9-1-1 in Metropolitan Washington: A Report on the Status of Systems and Recommendations for Regional Action"; and WHEREAS, the COG Board of Directors has reviewed and endorsed this report, and seeks to implement its recommendations, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT: · The City of Fairtax approves the report, "9-1-1 and E-9-1-1 in Metropolitan", and pledges support to the implementation Of its recommendations. · The City of Fairfax approves and endorses the use of 9-I-1 for emergency assistance only, and with this resolution ioins with the region to agree that 9-1-1 shall be used for emergencies only. · The City of Fairfax approves the proposal to establish an areawide, coordi- nated public awareness campaign to support the regional agreement that 9-1-1 be used for emergencies only.
