WHEREAS, the federal government has proposed that the Washington National
Airport and the Dulles International Airport be divested from control of the federal
government; and
WHEREAS, the operation and control of these airports is crucial to the economy
and well being of the City of Fairfax;
NOW, THEREFORE, DE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Fairfax, Virginia, hereby supports the divestiture of both Washington National and
Dulles International Airports with the provision that both airports be controlled by
one body consisting of representatives of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the State of
Maryland, and Washington, D.C., with such authority weighted in favor of Virginia;
NOW, THEREFORE, gE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Fairfax
hereby supports the efforts of Fairfax County to insure that this type of authority be
structured in the best interests of the citizens of Virginia.
This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
