WHEREAS, Ray M. Birch, Treasurer of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, has resigned
effective January 31, 1982; and
WHEREAS, Section 3.5 of the Charter of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, provides
that in the event of a vacancy in the office of City Treasurer, "it shall be filled by the
Council by majority vote of all its members for the interim period;" and
WHEREAS, the City Council has interviewed available people for this position and
has agreed upon the person it desires to appoint)
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fairfax,
Virginia, that 3ohn W. Coughlan is hereby appointed to the office of City Treasurer of
the City of Fairfax, Virginia, effective February I, 1982, for the interim period until a
successor is elected at the next general election and takes office.
