R-79-1 RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A CITY/GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY/ BUSINESS COMMUNITY COORDINATING COMMITTEE WHEREAS, George Mason University has proven to be a valuable resource in past associations with the City of Fairfax and the City's business community, and WHEREAS, George Mason University is growing and develop- ing more diverse programs of great potential value to the City of Fairfax, its citizens and the business community, and WHEREAS, Fairfax City, the City's business community (as represented by the City of Fairfax Chamber of Commerce) and George Mason University have cooperated productively on past projects of mutual interest such as results oriented economic surveys, improvement of physical facilities including the upgrading of the City's water system and the provision of recreation opportunities, and WHEREAS, there is now the opportunity to improve upon past cooperative ventures to benefit George Mason University, the City and the business co~m~unity, and WHEREAS, it appears that a committee is needed to coordinate this cooperation, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that a City/George Mason University/Business Community Coordinating Committee be appointed and tasked to: A. Make recommendations to the City Council on how present and future George Mason University resources could be used to enhance the economy of the community and benefit the university. B. Make recommendations to the City Council regarding what the proper roles of City government, citizens and the business community should be in this cooperative venture. #. The Chairman of The CUB Committee shall be selected by the Commission from the City Council members, shall serve for one year at a time, and shall be pre- cluded from self-succession. 5. The Committee is charged with all tasks included in the :Iuly 10, 1979, memorandum from CUB to the Mayor of Fairfax City. It is not limited, however, to only these tasks; other related aspects may be suggested by the City Council, George Mason University and the Chamber of Commerce. The City Manager or designee shall prepare a quarterly report commencing I December 1982, of CUB activities for dis- simination to CUB and Council members.
