R-79-16 A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF EFFORTS BY WNVT-TV TO BROADCAST ON CHANNEL 56 WHEREAS, the Federal Communications Commission on September 27, 1979, assigned UHF Channel 56 to Fairfax to serve Northern Virginia residents; and WHEREAS, WNVT-TV has been broadcasting over Channel 53 with a transmitter site south of Northern Virginia since 1972 which provided a weak signal that could not be received by many Northern Virginians; and WHEREAS, the assignment of Channel 56 to Fairfax will enable WNVT-TV to broadcast non-commercial educational programs on Channel 56 and greatly improve the reception of the WNVT signal by Northern Virginia area citizens. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Fairfax commends the Federal Communications Commission for granting the assignment of Channel 56 to Fairfax and fully supports efforts by the management of WNVT-TV to put Channel 56 on the air, in compliance with F.C.C. regulations, to broadcast educational programming to the citizens of Fairfax City and other Northern Virginia jurisidictions.
