R-76-10 RESOLUTION SUPPORTING TH~ CLOSING OF FAIRFAX ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WHEREAS, the enrollment at Fairfax Elementary School has declined steadily from 264 pupils in 1973 to 180 pupils pro- jected for 1976; and WHEREAS, the Fairfax Elementary School does not serve a readily defined area; and, WHEREAS, the Fairfax Elementary School building does not lend itself to carrying out a modern educational program; and, WHEREAS, the projected staff reductions for the forth- coming school year would further detract from the educational program; and, WHEREAS, the per pupil cost of education at Fairfax Elementary School is much greater than at any other elementary school in the City; and, WHEREAS, by closing the Fairfax Elementary School, Fairfal County would save approximately $100,000; and, WHEREAS, the Fairfax City School Board requested that the Division Superintendent of the Fairfax County School System initiate the process to close Fairfax Elementary School at the end of 1975-76 school year. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that: 1) The City Council, City of Fairfax, Virginia, strongly supports the City School Board in its request to the County School Board to close the Fairfax Elementary School. 2) Since the County will save approximately $100,000 the first year Fairfax Elementary School is closed, the City Council requests the City School Board to enter into an agreement with the County School Board absolving this City of any loss in capital credits due to transferring City children to Westmore and Green Acres Schools, R-76-10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be forwarded to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, the Fairfax County School Board and the Division Superintendent.
