R-75-10 RESOLUTION RELATIVE TO MAKING THE FAIRFAX VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT A DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY Effective May 1, 1978 WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, desires to provide the citizens of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, with modern and capable fire protection and rescue service in the most efficient manner possible; and, WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, believes it to be in the best interests of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, to retain and develop volunteer fire service within the City of Fairfax, Virginia; and, WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, in order to accomplish more fully the goals set forth hereinabove, desires to recognize the Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department, Inc., as the only or- ganization responsible for fire protection and rescue service in the City of Fairfax, and to assume the present responsibilities of the County of Fairfax in supporting Fire Station No. 3; and, WHEREAS, it will be necessary to coordinate the assumption of such responsibilities with the County of Fairfax, Virginia. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Attorney cause to be served forthwith upon the proper officials of the County of Fairfax, Virginia, notice, (a copy of this resolution being attached thereto,) in accordance with the requirements of the Master Agreement of April 7, 1965 of the intention of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, to establish a separate Fire Department in the City of Fairfax, Virginia, to be operated under the direction and control of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, on or before May 1, 1978, by recognizing the Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department, Inc., · R-75-10 ~ -2 as the only organization responsible for fire protection and rescue service in the City of Fairfax, and by assuming those responsibilities presently carried out by the County of Fairfax, Virginia, for Fire Station No. 3.
