WHEREAS, the Fairfax City Council, jointly with the Fairfax County
Board of Supervisors and the Falls Church City Council, wishing to
maintain a modern and efficient County correctional facility which can
continue to serve the needs of the County;and
WHEREAS, the City Councils of Fairfax and Falls Church, and the Board
of Supervisors of Fairfax County have further shown their intent to do so
by engaging the architectural firm of Davis and Smith, Inc. of Reston,
Vir~ nia, to design the needed modern institution; and
WHEREAS, said facility is also used by the Commonwealth for detention
of State violators pending adjudication and transfer to State institutions;
and
WHEREAS, Sec. 53-133.1, as amended, of the Code of Virginia, does
provide for State reimbursement to localities for construction or expansion
of or to existing County jails up to a maximum of $25,000for each participating
locality; and
WHEREAS, the Fairfax County voters have approved by referendum bond,funds
sufficient to construct the correctional facility; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Fairfax City Council that this resolution be
sent to the Director, Department of Welfare and Institutions, as an intent
for request of financial assistance for costs of construction related to
the proper construction of the County Detention Facility.
