19720718 r-72-18 R-72-18 RESOLUTION TO CREATE A CENTER CITY COMMISSION FOR FAIRFAX CITY, VIRGINIA WHEREAS, the 340 acres that comprise the central area of the City of Fairfax play a traditional and unique role not only in determining the character of life in the City but also as a professional, cultural, and governmental center for the surrounding metropolitan area; and WHEREAS, there is an immediate need to encourage future development of that area in Order to maintain a healthy and harmonious blend of commercial and residential land use and to achieve a central area that is both aesthetically pleasing and readily accessible to the residents of the City; and WHEREAS, there is a great need for full citizen participation in the review and development of the alternative plans and techniques that will be necessary and desirable in achiev- ing an attractive and affordable central area; and WHEREAS, this Council is pledged to moving swiftly and surely toward the adoption of a comprehensive plan for the central are a, NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Fairfax Virginia that there shall be created a Center City Commission consisting of representatives from the appropriate City governmental bodies and citizen representatives, who shall be selected by the Council to represent the various professional, commerical and residential interests of the City; and THAT the purpose of this Commission shall be to make recommendations to this Council for a comprehensive plan for the development of the central area of Fairfax City; and - R-72-18 THAT the City Council hereby requests that all citizens who desire to serve upon this Commission should make themselves and their qualifications known to either members of this Council or to the City Manager before the next meeting of this Council.
