WHEREAS the City of Fairfax frequently purchases
services and materials for the execution of its affairs; and
WHEREAS there is a substantial and varied business
community extant within the boundaries of Fairfax City; and
WHEREAS the Fairfax City Council is desirous
of promoting, nurturing and encouraging the growth of the
local business community;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Fairfax
City Manager is instructed to establish, with all City
employees in positions of purchasing authority or influence,
policies and procedures designed to ensure that, where
prices and quality of services and materials are comparable,
preference shall be given business establishments within
the City; and that the City Manager is instructed to report
quarterly to the Fairfax Mayor and City Council on the
percentage of purchases obtained from local businesses.
