19720223 r-72-3RESOLUTION R-72-3 WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Highways, in conjunction with the City of Fairfax, is undertaking to provide for the construction of a one-way street system in the City of Fairfax; and WHEREAS, this highway improvement project is necessary to meet the demands of the present traffic; and WHEREAS, the City is interested in expediting this improvement project so that bids may be received and contracts awarded as soon as possible; and WHEREAS, the City Council, by its previous Resolution of March 3, 1970 requested the Virginia Department of Highways to proceed with the project in the most feasible manner; and WHEREAS, it appears that this construction will require the removal of certain trees; and WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Highways has recommended to the City that certain construction be temporarily eliminated following the award of the construction contract, which would preserve the aforementioned trees; and WHEREAS, the Federal Highway Administration has not concurred with this suggestion of the Virginia Department of Highways; and WHEREAS, this action by the Federal Highway Administration will result in further delays and the destruction of the trees; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Fairfax requests that the Virginia Department of Highways use its best efforts to obtain concurrence from the Federal Highway Administration so that the work may proceed as soon as possible and the trees remain.
