R E S 0 L U T I O N
DRUG ABUSE PREVENTION WEEK -- OCTOBER 3 - 9, 1971
WHEREAS, the President of the United States of America has
proclaimed and designated the week beginning October 3, 1971 as
the Nation's Second Annual Drug Abuse week, and
WHEREAS, the President has called upon the governing bodies
of all local jurisdictions throughout the country to proclaim
likewise, and
WHEREAS, the unprecedented growth of drug abuse over the
past decade poses not only a severe threat to the physical and
mental health of our youth but also a very real threat to the
life and property of people who dwell in our great city,
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOHN W. RUSSELL, and the CITY COUNCIL OF
FAIRFAX CITY, do hereby designate the week of October 3 - 9,
1971, as Drug Abuse Prevention Week and we call upon all groups
of citizens - labor, teachers, the clergy, business - to establish
meaningful programs for the promotion of drug abuse prevention
and urge them to cooperate with all other groups in our city
in operating such programs. To be venturesome in exploring
new methods to help those already addicted and to show the
dangers of drug abuse to those who will be exposed to the tempta-
t ion.
