19700303 r-70-04 RESOLUTION R-70-4 WHEREAS, the City of Fairfax played an important role in the history of our area, our Commonwealth and our Republic; and WHEREAS, many citizens have indicated a desire to display, for the enjoyment and enlightenment of all, their privately held items of historical interest; and WHEREAS, we have available for possible historical museum use one of the oldest school structures in Northern Virginia, the Fairfax Elementary School; and WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Fairfax con- cludes that it is desirable to study the possibility of es- tablishing a historical museum, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fairfax, Virginia that 1. The Fairfax Historical Museum Study Commission be and is hereby established. 2. The said commission be composed of one member of Council, one member of the City School Board and three citizens at large, to be appointed by the Mayor. 3. The said commission be encouraged to report to Council at its earliest convenience on the feasibility of establishing and the manner of establishment of a Fairfax Historical Museum in the original Fairfax Ele- mentary School. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager and his staff are directed to assist and support said commission R-70-4 -2 in its activities. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolu- tion be forwarded to the City School Board, encouraging their concurrence in the proposition and requesting that they keep the present occupants of the structure posted on the develop- ments of this study.
