19660927 r-66-4R-66-4 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, in 1965 the Virginia Department of Highways presented plans to the City of Fairfax for the widening and improvement of Routes 236 and 50 in the City from the intersection of Route 236 with Route 237 to the westerly corporate limits of the City of Fairfax, identified as Project Number 0236-151-101, C501 and Project Number 0050-151-101, C501; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Fairfax, on December 21, 1965, endorsed the proposed, location and typical section of Routes 236 and 50 from the intersection of Route 236 and West Street to the westerly corporate limits of the City, as shown on the aforementioned plans, but reserved comment upon that portion of the project between West Street and Route 237 pending the completion of a traffic study; and WHEREAS, a report entitled "Fairfax Central Area Traffic Study" has been prepared for the City by the firm of ALAN M. VOORHEES & ASSOCIATES, INC., which study contains proposals and alternate plans to meet the long-range traffic needs of the City; and WHEREAS, the improvement of North Street to handle one-way west- bound traffic between Route 237 and West Street is recommended in said report; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Fairfax hereby affirms the aforementioned resolution of December 21, 1965 with respect to plans for improvements between West Street and. the westerly corporate limits of the City and. requests that the Virginia - 2 - Department of Highways, acting generally in accordance with the recom- mendations contained in the report of ALAN M. VOORHEES & ASSOCIATES, INC., undertake field surveys and prepare plans for the improvement of North Street from West Street to Route 237 to accommodate all traffic presently carried by Route 236 between these points, and further resolved that no change should be made in the existing right-of-way width or section of Route 236 between West Street and Route 237.
