AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 30 (ELECTIONS), ARTICLE I (GENERAL) OF
THE CODE OF THE CITY OF FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, TO ADD THERETO A NEW SECTION
30-2 PERTAINING TO THE TIMING OF ELECTIONS FOR THE MAYOR, THE MEMBERS
OF THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE MEMBERS OF THE SCHOOL BOARD.
BE IT ORDAINED, by the City Council of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, that Chapter 30, Article
I of the Code of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, is amended to add a new Section 30-2, to read in its entirety
as foIIows:

Notwithstanding an rov_ision of the Cit Charter to_the contrary on thedate
of enactment of this section _and_pursuant to_the requirements -of applicable lawthe
municipal_ elections for the May r the City_Council and the_School_Board_of the City
previouslyscheduled _on the frst Tuesday_in_May 2022_shall next_be held instead on
the eneral election -date on the first Tuesda in November 2022 and again every two
xears thereafter. The terms of the current_Maymembers of the City Council and
members of the School_Board --shall-he-extended until_thcir successors have been
elected at the Nov_ember,.2022 election_and have been_fullyaualified to serve.
Exce i as -ex ressly_provided-in this section, Cityelections shall be-govened
any non_inconsistent_provisions of the City_Charter and other applicable law."
This Ordinance shall become effective as provided by law.
