R-20-54RESOLUTION NO. R-20-54 RESOLUTION SUPPORTING "THE JULIUS ROSENWALD AND ROSENWALD SCHOOLS STUDY ACT OF 2019" WHEREAS, the City of Fairfax, Virginia is committed to recognizing its diverse history, which includes the former site of a Rosenwald School, and is interested in highlighting its connection with an important philanthropist, who supported education for African Americans in the early 201h century; and WHEREAS, "The Julius Rosenwald and Rosenwald Schools Study Act of 2019" would support the preservation and interpretation of the important philanthropic contributions of Julius Rosenwald and the educational importance of Rosenwald Schools, including the former Rosenwald School located in the Town of Fairfax from 1926-27 1954, and whereas, the City of Fairfax would become one of the first municipalities to support this Act and then join with national organizations, including the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the United Negro College Fund, the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, Inc., the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, and over 20 additional national and state organizations; and NOW, THERFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, that this resolution be, and hereby is, adopted to support "The Julius Rosenwald and Rosenwald Schools Study Act of 2019.".
