R-19-36RESOLUTION NO. R-19-36 RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE CITY OF FAIRFAX 2020 LEGISLATIVE PROGRAM AND STRATEGIES FOR THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2020 LONG SESSION WHEREAS, The City of Fairfax is apolitical subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and, as such, has an interest in prospective legislation that will come before the Virginia General Assembly during its 2020 Session; and WHEREAS, The Legislative Liaison, in collaboration with the senior leadership team, elected officials, boards and commissions, regional groups and associations, has developed the legislative program and recommends the City Council support the proposed City of Fairfax 2020 Legislative Program as its legislative program; and WHEREAS, the City Council has considered the Legislative Liaison's recommendations and wishes to approve them as the City of Fairfax 2020 Legislative Program. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Fairfax, Virginia: 1. That it hereby approves the City of Fairfax 2020 Legislative Program and endorses, by reference, the positions contained in the Virginia Municipal League, Northern Virginia Transportation Authority, Northern Virginia Transportation Commission, Environmental Sustainability Committee, Commissioner of the Revenue, Commission for Women, and City of Fairfax School Board; and 2. That the Virginia General Assembly is urged to favorably consider and take action on the legislative initiatives provided in City of Fairfax 2020 Legislative Program; and 3. That the Mayor, Members of City Council, the City Manager, the Assistant City Manager, the City Attorney, and Legislative Liaison are authorized and encouraged to represent the City of Fairfax positions, as set forth in the City of Fairfax 2020 Legislative Program, with respect to prospective legislative and policy matters being contemplated by the Virginia General Assembly during its 2020 Session; and 4. That a copy of the approved City of Fairfax 2020 Legislative Program be forwarded to Senator John "Chap" Petersen and Delegate David Bulova.
