A RESOLUTION TO PROCEED WITH THE UNIVERSITY DRIVE EXTENSION
PROJECT (UPC 109309)
WHEREAS, the City developed a conceptual plan for the University Drive Extension, which
was submitted to VDOT as part of the Smart Scale (previously HB2) funding application, which
includes construction of a new roadway between Fairfax Boulevard and Eaton Place north of
University Drive; and
WHEREAS, the property owners in the project area have been notified of the project and
invited to comment on it; and
WHEREAS, the estimated project costs including right of way/easement acquisition and
construction will be approximately $10,000,000; and
WHEREAS, the City applied for and received Smart Scale funds from the Virginia Department
of Transportation for the project; and
WHEREAS, the City has now modified the roadway design to include traffic mitigation/traffic
calming elements; and
WHEREAS, VDOT has reviewed the proposed modifications and stated that they are
acceptable and would not cause the City's project to be rescored; and
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fairfax, Virginia
that the City Council approves the recommendation of staff to proceed with the project (UPC
109309).
