R-16-47RESOLUTION NO. R-16-47 Re -naming of Ratcliffe -Allison House WHEREAS, Ratcliffe -Allison House, built in 1812, was so named in 1973 in recognition of original owner Richard Ratcliffe and brothers Gordon and Robert Allison who constructed the 1824 addition; and WHEREAS, Kitty Barrett Pozer lived in Ratcliffe -Allison House from 1927-1981 and was instrumental in the construction of the house's large rear addition in 1927; and WHEREAS, she deeded the house to the City as a gift in 1973; and WHEREAS, she was a respected authority on gardening, including service as gardening columnist for the Washington Post and founding member of the Garden Club of Fairfax; and WHEREAS, she planted what became known as the "Pozer Garden" behind Ratcliffe -Allison House, a portion of which has been preserved in the garden of the new Old Town Square; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Pozer was also an early champion of local historic preservation, encouraging preservation of both the Ratcliffe -Allison House and Old Town Hall. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Ratcliffe -Allison House, located at 10386 Main Street, shall be known going forward as the "Ratcliffe-Allison-Pozer House."
