R-16-371.7 DkYf] K0 r cQar SIVI'MUSYA Naming of Ratcliffe Park Basketball Court — "Harold Skeins Basketball Court" WHEREAS, Harold Skeins, Sr., along with his wife Patricia, moved to the City of Fairfax in 1958; and WHEREAS, he was actively involved with the youth in the City for over half a century; and WHEREAS, Harold had the unique ability to relate to young children, teens, and adults on a substantive and personal level; and WHEREAS, he was a basketball fanatic and regular attendee of Fairfax High School basketball games; and WHEREAS, Harold could regularly be found on the basketball court at Ratcliffe Park, where he would show off his "almost never miss" 3 -point shot; and WHEREAS, he developed and maintained relationships with hundreds of young people and their families over the decades; and WHEREAS, not only did he play, but he would also voluntarily maintain the basketball court. When a net needed to be fixed or a rim needed to be replaced, Harold would be up on the ladder replacing these items to ensure the children who also loved the game, always had a "house" to play in; and WHEREAS, Harold was a selfless member of the Fairfax community baring the gift of kindness, and sincerity, who, when interacting with the children, was always concerned with how the family was doing; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the basketball court at Ratcliffe Park located at Sager Avenue and Locust Street shall be known as the Harold Skeins Sr. Basketball Court. Adopted this 27th day of September, 2016.
