AN ORDINANCE EXTENDING FOR AN ADDITIONAL ONE HUNDRED AND
TWENTY (120) DAYS THE FRANCHISE NANCE ON JULY 20, 1982G(ORDINANCE NO.
AND POWER COMPANY BY ORDI 1982-24)
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 1982-24, adopted by the City of Fairfax, Virginia (the
"City") on July 20, 1982, granted to Virginia Electric and Power Company for a period of
thirty (30) years from and after the final passage of said ordinance the right to use the streets,
alleys, and public places of the City to acquire, erect, install, maintain, and use, and if now
constructed to maintain and use, poles, towers, wires, cables, conduits, ductways, manholes,
handholds, and appliances, in, over, along, on, and under the streets, alleys, and public places
of the City, for the purpose of distributing, limits of the City; and electric current for light,
heat, and power at any point within the corp orate
WHEREAS the City is in the process of considering a new ordinance to award a new
franchise and may not finalize this process before February 14, 2013, the current expiration
date of the existing franchise as previously extended by the City Council;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of
Fairfax, Virginia that the franchise granted by Ordinance No. 1982-24 is hereby extended for
an additional one hundred and twenty (120) days from and after its current extended
expiration date, until and through June 14, 2013.
This ordinance shall become effective as provided by law.
