American Land Marks Week RESOLUTION WHEREAS, Congress declared in 1935 that it is a national policy to preserve for public use historic sites, buildings and objects of national significance for the inspiration and benefit of the people of the United States; and WHEREAS, the congressionally chartered National Trust for Historic Preservation, under the honorary chair- manship of Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson, is sponsoring the American Land Marks celebration; and WHEREAS, the purpose of the American Land Marks celebration in 1964 is to re-awaken a sense of asthetic re- sponsibility in the individual citizen to draw the attention of citizens to the urgent need to preserve the richness and diversity of the historical, architectural and national heri- tage of America ' s living history; and WHEREAS, the City of Fairfax has within it many buildings and sites of national historic interest; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Fairfax does now proclaim the week of September 28th to Octo- ber 4th. , 1964, to be American Land Marks Week.
