R -10 -54 A RESOLUTION NAMING AND DEDICATING UNIVERSITY PARK WHEREAS, the City of Fairfax and George Mason University share a common boundary and are co- located as part of the greater Fairfax community; and WHEREAS, George Mason University and the City of Fairfax have witnessed dynamic growth in both their physical development and reputation; and WHEREAS, the fact that, as neighbors and partners in the community, George Mason University and the City of Fairfax enable each to enrich the other culturally, socially and economically; and WHEREAS, as a demonstration of the spirit of cooperation that exists between the City of Fairfax and George Mason University, a small tract of land bordering both the city and the university has been transformed into an intimate neighborhood park that will be the site of many enjoyable community activities for both city residents and George Mason University student, faculty and staff for decades to come; and WHEREAS, George Mason University provided resources for the design and construction of the park resplendent with winding paths for pedestrians and bikers, benches and beautiful landscaping wrapped into an outstanding design, and the City of Fairfax provided the land and drainage infrastructure on which the park was built. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Fairfax, VA, hereby designates and dedicates the new city park at the southern end of University Drive as UNIVERSITY PARK, in recognition of, and in testimony to, the friendship and shared heritage that exists between George Mason University and the City of Fairfax with the hope that this park will be a reminder to both communities of that unique and mutually beneficial relationship.
