AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 90, SECTION 90-3 OF THE CODE OF
THE CITY OF FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, PERTAINING TO PAYMENT BY CREDIT
CARD
BE IT ORDAINED, by the City Council of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, that Chapter 90,
Section 90-3 of the Code of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, is hereby amended as follows:
Sec. 90-3 Payment by credit card.
The treasurer is authorized to accept payment of local taxes, other fees or charges
generated by the sale of utility services by use of a credit card. The treasurer shall, in addition
to any penalties and interest which may be assessed upon such local taxes, add to the payment
a sum not to exceed four percent of the amount of tax, penalty and interest paid, as a service
charge for the acceptance of such card. The service charge assessed shall not exceed the
amount charged to the city. Such service charge shall not be assessed upon any payment
collected by the parks and recreation department for user fees, program participation fees and
rental of property fees. Such service charge shall not be assessed upon any payment collected
by the office of historic resources for program fees, gift shop sales, and donations.
This ordinance shall become effective as provided by law.
